Failure to Yield Ends in Pedestrian Injury for Jamestown Man

To our Southeast, in the town of Jamestown, some local residents may be worrying about their safety while walking in crosswalks after a pedestrian was struck and injured this month. While police say the accident victim did not receive any life threatening injuries, the importance of vigilance while driving is an important message to take away from this incident.

According to police, the accident occurred just before 10:30 am. A 54 year old female driver was stopped at a stop sign and was turning right onto another street when the accident occurred. Witnesses, who were behind the woman at the time of the pedestrian accident, say that when she turned right, the front of her vehicle collided with a 55 year old man who was walking in the crosswalk.

Medical crews took the man to Jamestown Regional Medical Center to be treated for an injury received by his left knee. He is expected to make a full recovery. As for the driver, police say that wearing her seatbelt prevented her from being injured as well.

The 54 year old woman admitted to the police that the reason she hit the man was because she didn’t see him in the crosswalk. Due to this negligence, police have cited her for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. It’s not clear at this time whether the accident victim will be filing any civil charges in the case.

Unfortunately, the types of accidents occur across the state of North Dakota all the time, often with similar reasons. If there is any one message that residents can take away from this story, it’s that maintaining constant vigilance while behind the wheel of a motor vehicle can greatly prevent an accident such as this from happening again in the future.
