Bakken Oil Field Explosion Leaves Man Seriously Burned

It is well known that some professions in North Dakota carry a higher amount of risk than others. While workers in these professions tend to know and understand the risks or their work before getting started, safety precautions provided by employers are still expected. Unfortunately, despite safety training and equipment, accidents happen and the work related injuries that follow can be life altering.

The Bakken oil fields in North Dakota are booming and this increase in productivity has brought experienced drillers from all across the country to take part in the numerous job opportunities available. While this business has been good for the local economy, injuries that occur in this line of work are often severe, if not fatal. Recently, an explosion on one of the oil rigs left an employee suffering from serious burns to his head and both hands. He is currently recovering from his injuries at a medical facility in Bismarck.

The employee who was hurt in this accident is reported to be a contract worker through Whiting. The official cause of the incident has not been determined and the accident is still under investigation by both Whiting and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. As a safety precaution, this particular well head has been closed off until the investigation is completed.

The injuries suffered in this accident, aside from the physical pain inflicted, could also make it difficult for this employee to resume working in his current profession. Employees in North Dakota who suffer from work related injuries may be able to seek compensation for the damages done. A workers’ compensation claim may be filed to recoup any financial losses associated with the incident including providing for the necessary medical care required to recover from the injuries sustained and the loss of wages from time off work.
