Deadly Semi Truck Accident in Minot, ND Leaves Family Grieving
A deadly semi truck accident has left several people injured and one North Dakota family grieving this month as police continue to piece together the events that led up to the fatal crash. But just as investigators find one answer, several more questions keep popping up, leaving these victims likely feeling a sense of injustice.
The multi vehicle accident occurred only a day ago at the intersection of Highway 83 and 2 and 52 Bypass near Minot. During the evening hours, investigators say that several vehicles were stopped at the intersection’s stop light when a semi truck failed to stop. The truck collided with the rear end of a car which started a chain reaction of crashes that police say could not have been avoided.
First responders on the scene found the first car smashed between the first semi and another that had been parked at the light in front of the car. The driver, whose identity has not been released by police at this time, was found dead at the wheel and is considered to be the only fatality in this accident. Multiple injuries were also reported though the exact number is unknown at this time.
Three semis and five cars were involved in the accident. One witnessed explained, there was a loud bang and vehicles suddenly began crushing in on one another.
Questions have already begun swirling around the accident and most victims want to know why the semi-truck driver failed to stop. As past accidents have shown, any number of contributors can cause fatal crashes like this. Everything from driver fatigue to mechanical failure can be reasons and it’s not clear at this time whether investigators suspect alcohol as a factor or whether reckless driving could have been a cause. All of these unanswered questions have likely left the victims frustrated and unhappy. With time, hopefully police will have answers that can lead them to the next steps of the healing process.
