Help Identify Hit and Run Driver of Semi in North Dakota
How do North Dakota law enforcement agents identify drivers involved in hit and run car accidents? In a particular case from a recent accident, they are requesting help from the public as they track down the hit and run driver of a truck who caused a fatality. In similar types of car accidents, police could rely on traffic cameras, other technology, and witness reports.
In this particular car accident, the victim was a man who had accidentally run his vehicle off the road and was stuck in a swampy area. At that point, he left his vehicle and was walking along the roadway as he was trying to attract a passing motorist for assistance. North Dakota police believe that he was standing in the road when he was hit by a semi truck. After hitting the pedestrian, the truck left the scene of the accident.
The impact from the truck was so severe that the man was killed upon impact. While there was a woman in the car with the victim before the vehicle left the road, she did not witness the hit and run incident. It is hoped that someone may be able to help identify the driver of the truck. Police are certain of the make and model of the truck based on evidence left behind at the scene.
Victims of hit and run car accidents may feel that they have no options to seek recompense for their pain and suffering. However, once the driver is identified from this incident, the family of the deceased could consider filing a civil claim to recover expenses incurred from the accident. The success of a civil claim is contingent upon sufficient evidence validating the claim that another driver’s negligence contributed to the fatal accident.
